What Nyota collects, why, and what we never do with it. Written to be read, not just filed. Nyota processes personal data under Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019.
1. What we collect
Account data: name, email, phone, and role. Creator data: stage name, categories, location, social handles and their public metrics, rate cards, portfolio media. KYC data: ID document image and a selfie, used for verification. Transaction data: campaign budgets, escrow movements, payouts and withdrawal destinations.
Usage data: pages visited, searches and filters used on Discover, and device/browser basics needed to run the site.
2. What we never show brands
A creator's real name (until a brief is accepted, and then only as needed), ID documents, bank details, and M-Pesa number are never displayed on profiles or shared for marketing. Brands see stage names, verified socials, rate cards, work history and ratings.
3. How we use data
To run the marketplace: matching, verification, escrow, payouts, dispute review, and safety. To compute public signals like the Authority Score from campaign history. To communicate about your campaigns and account. We do not sell personal data.
4. Sharing
With payment processors (including M-Pesa rails) to move money you instructed us to move. With identity verification providers to perform KYC matching. With authorities where Kenyan law requires it. Service providers process data under contract and only on our instructions.
5. Retention and your rights
KYC images are retained while your account is active and for the period financial regulations require after closure. You may access, correct, export or request deletion of your personal data (subject to legal retention) by writing to privacy@khonsu.me. We respond within 30 days.
6. Cookies
We use strictly necessary cookies for sign-in and security, and privacy-respecting analytics cookies to understand which pages help people finish campaigns. No advertising trackers.
Nyota is in a private pilot. These texts describe how the pilot platform works and will be reviewed by counsel before public launch. Questions: help@khonsu.me.
